Frequently Asked Questions:
Why is Outcomes issuing a CPA Addendum?
- Due to evolving vaccine guidance from various states and governing bodies, Outcomes is issuing a CPA Addendum to provide pharmacies with flexibility to follow location-specific guidance. This update is intended to enable pharmacies to follow guidance from approved governing bodies beyond the CDC and ACIP, as permitted by law.
- No. The Addendum is optional. Pharmacies that choose not to sign will continue operating under the terms of their existing CPA.
- No. The Addendum supplements the existing Immunization CPA by explicitly allowing pharmacies to follow guidance from applicable governing bodies beyond CDC/ACIP. It does not replace or invalidate the original agreement.
- No. There is no additional cost to pharmacies for this Addendum through the Outcomes CPA program.
- No. Outcomes will not monitor Addendum signatures or send repeated follow-ups. If a pharmacy signs the Addendum, it will be retained on file in the pharmacy’s account.
- Possibly. Filing requirements vary by locality. Pharmacies should consult their governing body to determine if filing is necessary.
- Yes. Pharmacies may need to work directly with their location-specific governing body to understand and implement applicable guidance under the Addendum.
- No. While the COVID-19 vaccine prompted this action, the Addendum is not specific to COVID-19. The language has been written to allow pharmacies to follow guidance from applicable governing bodies for all vaccines beyond the CDC and ACIP, as permitted by law.
- Outcomes is not recommending alternative protocols. Like all stakeholders, we are awaiting updated guidance from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). However, if your applicable governing body—such as your state board of pharmacy or department of health—has issued a different recommendation, the CPA Addendum enables you to follow that guidance, provided it is permitted under applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- No. Outcomes will not update the CPA to include or authorize off-label vaccine usage. The CPA and Addendum are designed to support administration of vaccines in accordance with approved protocols and guidance issued by recognized governing bodies. Pharmacies should consult their own legal or regulatory advisors regarding any off-label considerations.
- At this time, Outcomes is awaiting updated guidance from ACIP regarding the 2025–2026 COVID-19 vaccine formulation and administration protocol. The existing CPA includes a reference link to ACIP’s published recommendations. Once ACIP releases its updated protocol, pharmacies will have access to it via the CPA without requiring any changes to the agreement.
- No. As CPAs are renewed through the standard annual cycle, the language from this Addendum will be incorporated into future CPA versions. Pharmacies will not need to sign a separate Addendum at each renewal.
